Dennis Rodman is no stranger to... strange... public antics. For those who aren't too privy on NBA trivia or his many achievements as a professional basketball player, you've heard of the man regardless. He's a household name for many, many reasons.
Sure, he's widely regarded as one of the best NBA players in history, but it's his eccentric public persona that helped establish Dennis Rodman as a household name.
So, let's talk about Dennis Rodman's wildest pop culture moments.
Dennis Rodman: A Legend On and Off the Court (Wildest Pop Culture Moments)
Dennis "The Worm" Rodman is a character... to say the least. From his romance with pop music global superstar Madonna to his other high-profile romance (you know, the time he married himself), there's so much to talk about!
So, in no particular order, he are our choices for Rodzilla's greatest pop culture moments.
That Time Dennis Married Himself
Can you name another basketball player who wore a wedding dress out in public (or, at all? Tough to say. I can see John Stockton wearing a dress.)? Mr. Rodman holds the distinction and he, once again, found another way to break the mold and hold some kind of record that only he could.
Back in 1996, Dennis, who's always worn his gender flexibility (literally) outwardly, showed up donning a wedding dress, a wig, and full makeup, declaring himself to be bisexual and in the process of marrying himself.
Sure, this was all to promote his autobiography, 'Be As I Wanna Be,' but that image is seared, not only in the memories of anyone born during or prior to the 90s, but forever on the internet as all things are.
The image I used for this article was literally one of the first that popped up when I Googled his name... just saying.
That Time Dennis Dated the Biggest Pop Star of All Time
Granted, the relationship was very short-lived, but roller coasters typically are.
Easily one of the best details to come out of that relationship is the (alleged) claim that Madonna offered Dennis Rodman $20 million to get her pregnant. Whether that's true or not, it's a wild story.
Apparently, when Rodman was on one of his many infamous excursions in Las Vegas, the pop start called the NBA legend that she was ovulating. The rational thing would certainly be to jump on a private jet and fly New York promptly. I mean, for those who have any memory of the 90s, Madonna was once the hottest celebrity on the scene.
If she offered you $20 million to knock her up, you'd be nuts not to drop what you're doing and fly across the country on a private jet.
That Time Dennis Took a Swing at Wrestling
Call him a "Jack of all trades," because Dennis isn't just one of the all-time NBA greats, he also wrestled professionally.
Not only that, but Dennis wrestled his NBA rival, Utah Jazz legend Karl Malone during the New World Order event. This happened while Dennis was wrestling alongside wrestling giants like Hulk Hogan.
It's one of those things that we just kind of glossed over and accepted because it's Dennis being Dennis. But it's one of those things that also stands out as just... something basketball players don't normally do.
There was a lot of commentary when Michael Jordan had a brief run as a professional baseball player, but Dennis's run in the WCW is a standout. If any other NBA player did that, we'd probably talk more about it. But the thing about Dennis is... it's only the tip of the iceberg.
That Time Dennis Became a Hollywood Actor
Now, it's not super unusual for famous athletes to try their hands at acting, but Dennis's brief run as an actor was... kinda hilarious.
The Worm starred alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme in the... ahem... less than stellar action flick 'Double Team.' It's worth noting that 'Double Team' is considered one of the worst movies of the 90s and the NBA legend's first attempt at acting was an absolute failure to launch.
The Razzie's tore him apart. If you're not familiar, the Razzie Awards is a mean-spirited counterpart to the Academy Awards. Dennis went on to "win" the title of "Worst New Star," "Worst Supporting Actor," and "Worst Screen Couple," alongside co-star Van Damme.
That Time Dennis Became Friends With Kim Jong Un
This one has to take the cake. No one, and I mean NO ONE, has the distinction of visiting North Korea and becoming friends with one of the world's most dangerous dictators, Kim Jong Un.
Most people aren't even allowed to visit North Korea.
Apparently, the two of them bonded deeply over their love of basketball and Dennis came back to the states boasting about how he just made a new lifelong friend. This obviously drew a lot of backlash.
North Korea and the United States don't have the greatest relationship. That's an understatement.
But hey, on the bright side, North Korea has at least one less reason to attack.
The Man, The Myth, The Legend...
It's easy to argue that no other basketball player will have the legacy that Dennis Rodman have. While he's considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time, there are definitely a few who absolutely trump the rebound king.
But not even Michael Jordan's 'Space Jam' could garner enough buzz to bury the Dennis Rodman tabloids.
